Oregon
Psychological Association honors Bend pyschologist with Public Education
Award at Annual Conference
The Oregon Psychological Association is presenting
its first-ever Public Education Award to Michael Conner, a Bend
psychologist specializing in children and families.
The award presentation will take place
Saturday, May 12, 2007, at the Oregon Psychological Association’s Annual
Convention in Eugene.
Conner’s innovative approach has received national
media coverage in publications including Cosmopolitan, Money Magazine,
Parents Magazine, and The New York Times.
He has appeared as a guest on the “Montel Williams Show.”
Conner is the author of “Crisis
Intervention with Adolescents: A Guide for Parents and Professionals,”
and helped to develop “StepOne” computer systems to aid parents with
troubled children and to promote school safety.
Conner was an engineer and
forester before becoming a psychologist.
Over his 15-year psychology career, he has worked in a range of
settings, from crisis centers to hospital emergency rooms.
He currently works in private
practice and is recognized expert and trainer on intervention with
children in the Republic China.
“My passion,” says Conner, “is to talk
with parents and kids in plain and simple ways about psychology and
mental health.”
The Oregon Psychological Association is
a not-for-profit statewide professional organization that advocates for
psychologists on local, state and national issues affecting both the
profession and the world in which we live. The Public Education Award
was created to recognize and encourage public education activities by
OPA members.
The OPA’s conference will be May 11-12,
2007 at the Hilton Eugene & Conference Center, 66 East 6th Ave. The
annual event draws hundreds of licensed psychologists from around the
region for presentations on topics ranging from “Internet Crimes Against
Children” to “Helping Your Client Get a Good Night's Sleep.”
